Impact: Sustainability of Care
To achieve lasting improvements in health outcomes, The Ihangane Project considers sustainability at each stage of our work. Sustainability is influenced by a variety of factors:
Community ownership of the health system and health outcomes
Strong operational management to improve efficiency, decrease costs and strengthen revenue streams
Financial viability of both the health system and individual patients. Social enterprise is an effective tool for achieving financial viability. Social enterprise also effectively addresses the social determinants of health, such as food and financial insecurity, that so often undermine short term health gains.
The following examples showcase how The Ihangane Project is strengthening operational management and building social enterprise in Ruli, Rwanda.
